School of Business Hosts Conference with Nonprofit Fundraising Experts

WASHINGTON – The Howard University School of Business will host a conference, June 19, in partnership with Sanford Institute of Philanthropy to explore fundraising best practices with nonprofit leaders and experts. Innovative Approaches to Fundraising for Nonprofits: It’s All About Relationships will be held from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the School of Business auditorium, second floor, located at 2600 6th St. NW.

“We are excited to partner with Sanford Institute of Philanthropy to bring this opportunity to nonprofits in the DMV,” says Anthony Wilbon, Ph.D., associate dean of academic affairs and administration at Howard University School of Business. “Washington, D.C. and the surrounding area is home to a broad range of nonprofit organizations driven by important social missions. The conference is an opportunity to hear from experts about today’s best-practices for financing mission-driven work.”

According to a 2019 report by the National Center for Charitable Statistics, the nonprofit sector contributed an estimated $985.4 billion to the economy in 2015, with approximately 1.56 million nonprofits registered with the IRS. As the nonprofit sector balloons and charitable giving increases, nonprofit leaders have an immense opportunity to secure resources in support of their mission. The ability to be skillful and effective at tapping into diverse funding streams is one of the many demands of nonprofit executives.

As a philanthropist dedicated to distributing my wealth to causes I believe in strongly, few things are as gratifying to me as seeing the transformational impacts of effective fundraising,” says Denny Sanford, founder of Sanford Institute of Philanthropy.

The conference will focus on nonprofits that provide services in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. The event is well-suited for nonprofit executive directors and staff responsible for fundraising.

Special guests include:

  • Krista Berry Ortega MS, Director, Sanford Institute of Philanthropy
  • Ebonie Johnson, Trainer, Sanford Institute of Philanthropy
