WASHINGTON – Howard University has announced the appointment of Ebony Rose Copeland, M.D., MPH, as the director of the Howard University Student Health Center and as assistant professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine within the College of Medicine, effective August 9, 2021.
Copeland is fellowship-trained in adolescent medicine and completed her residency in family medicine in Chicago. Prior to residency, she attended medical school at the University of Kansas. She also earned a Master of Public Health degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University.
“The Division of Student Affairs is excited and honored to congratulate and welcome Dr. Ebony Copeland as director of the Student Health Center,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Cynthia Evers, Ed.D. “The Student Health Center plays a key role in the health and safety of Howard students and is a vital aspect of the overall vision of student affairs in maintaining and promoting sound health practices.”
Copeland’s background includes extensive work with the community in reproductive health care and in bringing awareness to health disparities. Most recently, Copeland served as director of adolescent medicine at Morris Heights Health Center in the Bronx, New York. She was responsible for the clinical and programmatic aspects of the Young Adult and Adolescent Health Unit.
“Dr. Copeland brings a wealth of experience to the HU community and is a welcome addition, who will move Howard forward,” said Dr. Hugh E. Mighty, MD, MBA, FACOG, dean of the College of Medicine and vice president of clinical affairs. “Copeland’s extensive work with the community will be invaluable in connecting the Howard University community with the larger external community to bring awareness to health disparities with a view toward ensuring effective health care for all.”
