WASHINGTON – On Sunday, August 25, more than 40 Howard University students and staff volunteered to assist Adventist HealthCare in moving their 76 patients and equipment from Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma, Maryland to Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The effort required an all-day commitment, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Howard University offered a lending hand from all health sciences colleges: College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, College of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy and the College of Medicine. During the relocation to White Oak, Gina Brown, Ph.D., a registered nurse and dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, lead the Howard University team in both locations.

“The focal point of the team was to provide family assistance and support at both institutions,” said Dean Brown.  “Howard was pleased to participate in such a major healthcare endeavor and to show strong interdisciplinary support to the Adventist HealthCare family.”

Adventist HealthCare planned the transition for two years, which involved 20 ambulances and several nurses, technicians, and physicians. They were grateful for Howard’s presence on their exciting moving day.
