WASHINGTON – On Saturday, February 25, Howard University College of Dentistry will hold its annual Student Council Health Fair, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The health fair will held at the College of Dentistry, located at 600 W Street, NW.

The fair will feature free cleanings, x-rays, and students sharing oral health information. It will also include diabetes risk assessments and blood pressure checks. Howard students expect to see about 200 people from all ages, throughout the day. Anyone screened on-site can return for more exhausted follow-up treatment at the Howard dentistry clinics.

“Here in DC, a lot of people don’t have insurance,” said Shannon Boxill, a fourth-year dental student who is helping to organize the fair. “They are not able to access dental care so we at the Howard University College of Dentistry think it’s very important that people can come out and get some level of care, even if it’s just a screening and a cleaning.”

Another organizer, fourth-year dental student Javauny Hyde echoed Boxill’s sentiments.

“The Howard University College of Dentistry is the only dental school located in the DC area,” Hyde said. “We are literally in the heart of one of the biggest communities where people don’t have access to treated and part of the spirit and values of Howard University is truth and service, which makes it our duty to take care of the people in our community.”
