WASHINGTON – The Howard Gospel Choir has introduced a line-up of performances across the nation for their 2019-2020 season. On January 18, the choir will host a commemorative holiday performance for Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the THEARC: Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus, located at 1901 Mississippi Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020. This event is open to the public and Bison can get a discounted rate. Tickets are available at howardgospelchoir.com.
Additionally, one of their top performances of the season is the URBAN ONE HONORS awards show. It will air on TV ONE on January 20, 2020, at 8 p.m. ET. The choir was invited by Urban One founder and chairwoman, Cathy Hughes, to open the show with emerging artist Jac Ross.
“Ms. Hughes means so much to us. Her resilience, her ambition and her commitment to our community is inspiring. She's been an avid supporter of the Howard Gospel Choir. When her team called, with the special invitation from Ms. Hughes to perform at the Urban One Honors ---- the answer was a definite YES!’ said Kristen L. Taylor, assistant business manager for the choir and Howard alumna.
“As we stood on the side of the stage, watching so many people that most of us had only seen on television or from a distance like the Rev. Al Sharpton, Jamie Foxx, and so many others, it was definitely a 'wow' moment. The feeling in MGM National Harbor was electric and you couldn't help but beam with pride --- so many gifted African Americans from various industries, in one building to celebrate the many achievements of our own, Radio One and the honorees.”
Earlier in their star-studded season, Howard Gospel Choir had a series of performances at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), and a holiday performance accompanying award-winning singer and producer, Mariah Carey, for her “All I Want For Christmas” tour stop MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, presented by the Hallmark Channel.
“The performance with Mariah Carey showed me that the sky is the limit and there is nothing you can’t achieve without hard work and dedication,” said Asaundra Hill, Howard Gospel Choir president. “This choir has been around for over fifty years and singing with someone like Mariah Carey and others like her is just the product of the determination and faith of everyone who has been in this choir.”
