The 2024-2025 Academic Year served as a platform to showcase Howard's legacy of athletic excellence, with multiple championships across men's and women's sports. Among them was an incredible season for our men's and women's swim and diving teams.
The men’s team won the 2024-25 Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimming and Diving Championships in Geneva, Ohio. It previously made history in 2023 when it won its first NEC title. The Bison were led by several standout performances:
- Tristan Stevens earned a gold medal in the 200 Meter Backstroke final
- The Bison A relay team of Tristan Stevens, Tai Afrik, Taj Benton, and Mason Green won gold medals in the 400 Meter Relay
- Erald Thompson III earned a bronze medal in the 200 Meter Breaststroke and set a Howard University record with a 1:59.02 finish
- Zay Swilley was named the NEC Most Outstanding Diver after winning the One Meter and Three Meter dives.
- Coaches Nicholas Askew, Salim King, Miriam Lynch, Ph.D., Courtenay Miller, and Jasmine Payne were named NEC Coaching Staff of the Year.
The women’s team earned a second-place finish with an NEC-leading 10 gold medals. Zuilda Nwaeze set an NEC record in the 50 Meter Freestyle and Chance Posada set an NEC record in the 100 Meter Backstroke.
