Championship Year Reflections: Men's Golf Team Wins NEC Title

Howard University Men’s Golf Team won its second consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) Men’s Golf Championship at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.

As Howard preps and plans for its next great academic year, it's a great time to reflect on and celebrate the past year's sports achievements. 

Howard University Men’s Golf Team won its second consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) Men’s Golf Championship at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. Second-year Bison Bear Huff achieved a 1-under par (70) performance and had five birdies in the final round. Other standout performances included those by fifth-year golfer Marcus Smith Jr. and sophomore Mathis Perroni, who tied for fourth place after hitting nine birdies. Huff, Smith, Perroni, and Rookie Cassius Blake, who registered at 4-over par (217)and tied for sixth in the standings were all named to the NEC’s All-Tournament Team. Smith earned All-NEC First Team honors sophomore Mathis Perroni was named to the All-NEC Second Team.

Howard's Women's Golf Team also performed well this past season, finishing second in the NEC’s women’s tournament. Sophomore Paris Fieldings was named NEC Individual Champion.

In a message to campus, Athletic Director Kery Davis congratulated the teams and gave a special thanks to Sam Puryear. Puryear is the director of Howard's golf program.
