Dear Howard University Community,
As I noted in my last update, we have established the Presidential Search Committee, assisted by the executive search firm Isaacson Miller to lead the search for the next president of Howard. You can find more information on the search committee here.
To gain a deeper understanding of the diverse viewpoints, perspectives, and questions surrounding our search for the next University leader, the search committee will be holding listening sessions for faculty, staff, students, and alumni during the month of October. I encourage everyone to register for and participate in your respective listening sessions. The information gathered in these sessions will inform the criteria based on which candidates will be evaluated. Additional suggestions for the Presidential Search Committee may be submitted at howardpresident@imsearch.com.
The objective of these listening sessions is to hear the important opportunities and challenges you feel the next president will need to address as well as the qualities and characteristics you would like to see in the next president of Howard University.
In preparation for the listening session, please consider the following framing questions:
- From your perspective, what are the greatest opportunities and/or the most pressing challenges facing Howard at this moment and in the foreseeable future?
- What qualifications, characteristics, and/or experiences would you identify as most important for the next president?
- What are the unique and/or distinctive aspects of Howard University that are critical for the next president to understand and embrace?
The insights gleaned from these stakeholders listening sessions will help inform the detailed position profile that will be published on the Howard University presidential search website and disseminated widely to potential candidates and those who may offer candidate recommendations. This document will provide a compelling description of the history, mission, and ambitions of the University as well as a realistic and persuasive picture of the opportunities, challenges, measures of success, and ideal qualifications for the role.
