- Supporting Unit: Office of the President
Dear Howard University Community,
Today, I step humbly into the role of interim president. It is wonderful to be back for this opportunity, and I want to thank Dr. Ben Vinson III for his service to our beloved institution.
The ultimate value in an institution is the ability to amplify people’s humanity. Howard University epitomizes that. Howard helped me live productively with sickle cell, realize my dream of becoming a physician, and exposed me to some of the most wonderful people in the world. It’s with this in mind that I pledge to ensure that everyone in our community is uplifted by our commitment to Excellence in Truth and Service.
As we take the next steps in Howard’s future, I have already made plans to meet with student leadership this week about their challenges and concerns around student accounts and how the university is addressing those issues. I will also meet with the Faculty Senate on the priorities for the academic year. Together, we will continue to elevate the progress and momentum of this storied institution. My door is open to all feedback, and I am filled with humility and appreciation of your upcoming support.
Excellence in Truth and Service,
Wayne A. I. Frederick, M.D., MBA
Interim President, President Emeritus, and
Charles R. Drew Professor of Surgery
