Spring Seasonal HVAC Changeover and Tips for Temperature Adjustments

  • Published Date:

Physical Facilities Management (PFM) is initiating the transition to the cooling season as part of our annual preparations. We are now at the stage of our seasonal HVAC changeover throughout many campus buildings to provide air conditioning. Based on current temperature forecasts, this process is expected to begin Tuesday, April 15, when cooling will gradually be activated in affected buildings.

Understanding Seasonal Temperature Changes

Spring and fall weather can be unpredictable, with sudden shifts between unseasonably warm or cool temperatures. Most campus buildings have HVAC systems that cannot easily switch between heating and cooling on short notice. Because this conversion is resource intensive and impacts equipment performance, it is only performed once per season.

How to Stay Comfortable During the Transition

During these transitional weeks, some individuals may find indoor temperatures warmer or cooler than desired. Here are some tips to stay comfortable:

· Dress in layers to adjust to indoor temperature changes.

· Use lightweight clothing and breathable fabrics on warmer days.

· Keep a sweater or jacket handy for cooler indoor conditions.

· Close blinds or shades to block direct sunlight and reduce indoor heat buildup.

· Open windows when possible to allow fresh air and natural ventilation on warmer days.

· Do not prop open doors (both exterior building doors and interior fire doors), as this disrupts airflow and building safety.

· Personal heating or cooling units are not allowed due to the risk of overloading electrical circuits.

Reporting Temperature Issues

If indoor temperatures become uncomfortable or if an HVAC unit in your office, classroom, or living space is not functioning properly, please submit a PFM Work Order Request work order at the following link: PFM Work Order Request

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this seasonal transition. Thank you for helping us maintain a comfortable and safe campus environment.
