Dear Howard University Community,

We are writing to inform you of a ruptured municipal water line on College Street, which is near several campus academic and research facilities, including the Laser Chemistry building, biology and chemistry buildings, Annex III and the pharmacy building.

DC Water has informed the University of its intentions to repair the damaged line beginning today. Due to several repair projects caused by freezing weather conditions throughout the city, the start of the repair project is unknown at this time.

Physical Facilities Management will work with DC Water to minimize any impacts to the campus. Until the water line is excavated, we do not yet know which buildings will be directly affected when the water to the broken line is shut off. It is possible that any building within the vicinity of College Street could experience a temporary water outage at some point today. We will work to provide notice prior to any outage to campus facilities.

We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and remind the campus community that infrastructure on campus and throughout our region are typically vulnerable to damage during seasonally frigid temperatures. Please contact Physical Facilities Management if you have any questions, and thank you for your patience.

Excellence in Truth and Service,
Office of Physical Facilities Management
