Howard University Board of Trustees Announces Two New Members

We are excited to announce the election of two new members of the Board of Trustees. The Honorable Carla Hayden, PhD and Mr. Marc S. Lampkin were elected to the Board last month. Hayden and Lampkin bring nuanced experiences that will advance the University’s mission. They will continue to help the University expand its footprint and maintain its status as the epicenter of extraordinary achievements.   Join us in welcoming our newest trustees and learn more about them below.

Trustee Carla Hayden, PhD

The Honorable Carla Hayden, PhD was sworn in as the 14th Librarian of Congress on September 14, 2016. Dr. Hayden, the first woman and first African American to lead the national library, was nominated to the position by President Barack Obama on February 24, 2016. The U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination on July 13. Prior to her latest post, Dr. Hayden served as CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, Maryland since 1993. Dr. Hayden was nominated by President Obama to be a member of the National Museum and Library Services Board in January 2010 and was confirmed to that post by the Senate in June 2010.

Trustee Marc S. Lampkin (21)

Mr. Marc S. Lampkin is a veteran advisor and Republican lobbyist, bringing years of political, legislative and campaign experience for his clients.   Mr. Lampkin is well-respected for his role as a member of House Speaker John A. Boehner's (R-OH) “Team Boehner,” a collective of high-level strategic advisers that worked closely with Speaker Boehner and other Republican members. His relationship with Speaker Boehner goes back to 1995 when Mr. Lampkin served as General Counsel for the House Republican Conference under then-Chairman Boehner for three years.
