Dear Howard University Community, 

In observance of Veterans­­­­ Day, Howard University will be closed Friday, November 10, 2023. The University will resume regular hours of operation on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Closure Requirements:

Unless designated as essential personnel, employees should not travel to Howard University to work. All buildings will be secured and locked. Essential employees who need access to campus buildings must check in with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 202-806-1100.

Essential Operations:

DPS will provide continuous safety and security coverage and building access to essential employees during the holiday.

Physical Facilities Management will continue to respond to urgent situations and emergencies.

• iLab will be closed on Friday, November 10, and will be open on Saturday, November 11, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, November 12, 1:30 p.m.-10 p.m.
• Howard University Hospital will remain open.
• The University Bookstore will be open from 10:00 a.m.- 3 p.m.
• WHUR-FM and WHUT-TV will continue their regular programming schedules.
• There will be no shuttle service on Friday, November 10. Shuttle services will resume on Monday, November 13.
• The Bison One Card Office will be closed on Friday, November 10. Please contact onecard@howard.edu for any urgent matters.
• University Graphics and Printing will be closed on Friday, November 10.
• Mail services will be suspended for the federal holiday and will resume operations when the campus reopens.
• HU Dining Services will operate on a weekend schedule.
  • Bethune Annex and Blackburn Café operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3-7 p.m.
  • The Market at Bethune and The Market at the Towers will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Simply to Go will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Punch Out and Nu Vegan will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Jazzman’s and Bison Brew will be closed.

Founders Library and Frederick Undergraduate Library

• Friday, November 10, 2023 — Closed All Day
• Saturday, November 11, 2023 —  Closed All Day
• Sunday, November 12, 2023 — Open 1:30 pm (Regularly scheduled hours resume).

Vernon E. Jordan, Jr. Law Library

• Friday, November 10, 2023 — Closed All Day
• Saturday, November 11, 2023 — Closed All Day
• Sunday, November 12, 2023 — Open 10 a.m. (Regularly scheduled hours resume).

Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library

• Friday, November 10, 2023 — Closed All Day
• Saturday, November 11, 2023 — Open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
• Sunday, November 12, 2023 —Open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

All other requests for staff to work on Veterans Day are restricted to critical and time-sensitive activities following Howard University policies and federal guidelines.
