Showtime Marching Band to Perform Halftime Show During Cleveland Cavaliers Game

Showtime Marching Band

WASHINGTON (January 30, 2019) – The Howard University “Showtime” Marching Band will be featured as part of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 15thannual Black Heritage Celebration in Ohio on Saturday, February 2. The event is part of a month-long salute recognizing the past and future accomplishments of African Americans. In honor of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the Showtime Band will perform a halftime show during the Cavaliers’ game against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Cavaliers’ Black Heritage Month Celebration committee cites the band’s national celebrity as a reason for being selected to perform during the celebration. According to the committee, special programing and performances will be featured during home games through February, highlighting black history moments and achievements.

“Celebrating black history is about more than just acknowledging our past, it’s about recognizing the great accomplishments of African Americans of today with the goal of inspiring our future and our youth to realize their dreams,” says Campy Russell, Cavaliers legend and Black Heritage Celebration committee member.

Before the Showtime Marching Band performs during halftime, the Wilberforce University Choir will kick off the celebration of HBCUs with a performance of the National Anthem, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The game will be aired live on Fox Sports Ohio, in addition to being livestreamed at foxsports.com/ohio.
