Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, Professor of Homiletics at Howard University's College of Divinity

For the month of February, we're going to shine a spotlight on individuals who are moving Black History forward through their research. This mix of students and faculty represent a variety of disciplines across the University, and their scope ranges from the pulpit to nanotechnology. These individuals stand on the shoulders of the many trailblazers before them, including E. Franklin Frazier, Toni Morrison, and Pauli Murray, and like their predecessors, their research will inspire many generations to come.

Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert is a Professor of Homiletics at the Howard University School of Divinity where he trains students to interpret the Bible and develop and deliver sermons. Dr. Gilbert’s research centers on African American preaching and Black church practice. In 2011, Dr. Gilbert launched The Preaching Project, a ministry aimed at equipping ministers to better serve African American churches and communities. Research and scholarship that addresses the religious and spiritual practices that impact the lives of African American, African, and African Diasporic people will always be significant for the human community to understand how to live morally and ethically.

“We cease to be human and loving if we do not regard the humanity of others." -Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert
