Office of University Communications Unveils New Howard Homepage During Charter Day Celebration

Homepage ArtWASHINGTON – Just ahead of the annual Charter Day Dinner, commemorating the March 2, 1867 founding of Howard University, the Office of University Communications announces a revamped homepage for the University’s official website, Howard.edu. Described as a dynamic information hub of continuously changing content, the new homepage supports the University’s strategic plan, Howard Forward 2024, as a catalyst for connectivity.

“The vision for the new Howard homepage allows us to tell the contemporary story of Howard University in a dynamic new format,” says Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick.  “We invite our students, alumni, faculty and friends to explore the exciting changes on the platform.  It’s more engaging, more informative and visually compelling.”

Two important elements of the new homepage are functionality and convergence, as the site is a central information hub and the heartbeat of the University’s digital presence. Vice President of Communications and Chief Communications Officer Crystal Brown says by adding more content presentations, and a single click, the homepage now connects users quickly and directly to information they can use.

“The homepage is a key resource for the entire Howard community,” Brown explains. “It was designed with every member of our community – faculty, staff, students, and alumni- in mind. Rich with compelling content, the enhanced visual and graphical elements complete the immersive experience.”

Visitors accessing Howard.edu will immediately notice updated features, including the use of video content, which captures the essence of the Howard University experience, and frequently rotating content that showcases the University’s unique presence in history and modern society. Included in the rotating content are features of current Howard University students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as a section featuring iconic graduates, which includes yearbook photos of notable alumni who exemplify the University’s mission statement and core values. The site contains historical data and also brings together contemporary information in real time from various sources, such as Howard’s Newsroom, People Profile, Events Calendar, and Athletics sites, as well as various Howard social media accounts.

“This homepage presents Howard’s story to the world,“ says Kweli Zukeri, manager of digital strategy and web services. “Our goal is to show students that these iconic people were once undergraduates, too. So, they can also become iconic and exemplify excellence. For prospective students, it shows them the endless opportunities for growth and achievement, if they were to attend Howard.”
