Milwaukee Bucks Owner Joins Howard School of Business, Shares Insights About Building a Successful Career in Finance and Investing

Marc Lasry and Howard School of Business Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 6, 2019) — Marc Lasry, owner of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks and chief executive officer of Avenue Capital Group, visited Howard University School of Business for a conversation with students, faculty, and staff about the business of finance and investing. Howard School of Business alumnus Wylie Fennell, consulting group sales specialist for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, moderated a conversation with Lasry that explored his journey to success in finance and investing.

“Our lecture series gives our students an opportunity to hear from some of the most successful executives in business,” says Barron Harvey, dean of Howard University School of Business. “We are very fortunate to be able to provide students with the opportunity to hear directly from industry leaders like Marc Lasry, who can share real insights about the path to becoming successful in business.”

Lasry co-founded Avenue Capital Group in 1995. The global investment firm has over $13 billion of assets under management and is headquartered in New York with offices in London, Luxembourg, Munich and throughout Asia.

“At the end of the day, when we talk about the investment world and setting goals to succeed in the industry, it really just takes a ton of hard work,” says Lasry. “I wish it were more complicated than that, but it really is just about working hard and having someone give you a chance. So that’s what I want students to understand- all they need is a shot to show how good they are.”
