WASHINGTON – In recognition of the Howard University Class of 2020 graduates, several notable figures and alumni extended congratulatory messages to salute and celebrate the class on obtaining their degrees from The Mecca.
With the spread of the coronavirus global pandemic, the University’s graduating Class of 2020, nicknamed “HU20,” was met with a particularly challenging and unprecedented reality during their final semester as Howard students as the campus was forced to close to adhere to local and federal government policies and guidelines. – a reality that will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come. Through those uncertain times, HU20 remained poised, engaged, and determined to continue Howard’s 153-year legacy.
“Today more than 1,300 stars, radiating with the knowledge gained at Howard University, light up our skies and provide a path forward in the darkness of these times,” said President Wayne A. I. Frederick. “They are our HOPE for a brighter future. That HOPE is embodied in an exceptional educational experience.”
As the graduates gathered in front of televisions and laptops across the nation to watch the “Virtual Ceremony for the Conferring of Degrees in Course,” the University rolled out surprise video messages and quotes on its social platforms from alumni, celebrities and friends who took a moment to celebrate the Class of 2020. While HU20 is unable to be physically embraced by mentors, professors and classmates for this milestone, Howard University is encouraging all members of the Bison family to extend a message of congratulations to the newest graduates of The Mecca using #HowardGrad20 and #HU20.
