WASHINGTON — Howard University’s Cathy Hughes School of Communications will bring the energy of sports, culture, and media to the community with "Club 520 LIVE: Homecoming Edition" at the Howard Theatre (620 T Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20001) on Wednesday, Oct. 14 (doors open at 6 p.m.; show starts at 7 p.m.). The “Club 520 Live” podcast recording will feature NBA All-Star and Howard University Men’s Basketball President of Basketball Operations John Wall as a special guest.
The event is part of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications’ year-long celebration of its 55th anniversary and will mark the launch of the school’s Impact Hub, developed in partnership with Project 68. The collaboration brings a nationally recognized sports and culture platform to Howard’s campus while creating opportunities for students to engage directly with leading voices across sports, entertainment, and media.
“Howard Homecoming is where culture, community and creativity come together, and we’re thrilled to welcome ‘Club 520’ to campus during this historic year for the Cathy Hughes School of Communications,” said Jami Ramberan, chair of the Department of Media, Journalism and Film at Howard University. “This live recording gives our students a front-row seat to the energy, entrepreneurship, and authentic storytelling driving today’s media landscape. There’s no better place than Howard to celebrate Black voices, bold ideas and the next generation of storytellers.”
Howard Homecoming Meets Sports and Culture
Hosted by NBA All-Star Jeff Teague, alongside DJ Wells and Brandon “B Hen” Hendricks, “Club 520 Live” will bring its Homecoming Edition to the Howard Theatre as part of the University’s annual Homecoming celebration, October 11–18.
Wall will join the program as the evening’s featured guest. A five-time NBA All-Star and former first overall NBA Draft pick, Wall brings his experience as an elite athlete and his current role in Howard basketball leadership to a conversation centered on sports, culture, entrepreneurship and the importance of investing in HBCUs.
“Howard’s Homecoming is already the biggest week in the culture. Putting ‘Club 520’ in the middle of it, and having it feed the next group of storytellers, that’s the kind of thing we said yes to before they finished the sentence,” said Jeff Teague, host of “Club 520.”
The event also will highlight the role of HBCUs in shaping culture and developing the next generation of leaders across sports, media and entertainment.
The “Club 520” team also will engage with Howard University students and participate in campus programming throughout Homecoming week, providing opportunities for students to connect with professionals working at the intersection of sports, entertainment and media.
