Howard University Wins LEAD Gold Award for Revamped University Homepage

HUH web site award

WASHINGTON - Howard University has won the LEAD Gold Award for the revamped university website. In March 2019, the Office of University Communications unveiled the revamped homepage for the University’s official website, Howard.edu.

The award was bestowed by HBCUgrow, a consortium dedicated to helping HBCUs grow enrollment and alumni giving, as well as other marketing challenges.

The new Howard homepage was designed as a dynamic information hub of continuously changing content. The new homepage supports the University’s strategic plan, Howard Forward 2024, and was designed as part of a broader digital communications strategy from the Office of University Communications.”

“The Digital Strategy & Web Services Team creates and maintains digital platforms to promote both Howard’s historical legacy of excellence and resilience, as well as its modern stories of innovation and triumph,” says Kweli Zukeri, M.S., Howard University’s director of digital, web, and marketing. “We are honored to be recognized for our work, particularly during an especially challenging period of time.”

Two important elements of the new homepage were functionality and convergence, as the site is a central information hub and the heartbeat of the University’s digital presence. The homepage also makes extensive use of compelling video content, capturing the essence of the Howard University experience. Frequently rotating content showcases the University’s unique presence in history and modern society. The homepage also incorporates features on current Howard University students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as a section on Howard’s many iconic graduates.
