Howard University Senior Selected for Prestigious ETS Presidential Scholarship

WASHINGTON (August 7, 2019) – Howard University senior Carmen Crusoe was recently selected for prestigious 2019 Educational Testing Service’s (ETS) Presidential Scholarship. Crusoe is one of only eight students nationwide honored with the scholarship this year.

Crusoe is pursuing undergraduate degrees in Africana Studies and political science and has plans to seek a career as a professor of Africana Studies. Crusoe is also a 2018 Frederick Douglass Global Fellow to Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, she was recently named a member of the inaugural class of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program at Howard University.

“I am honored to be recognized for my hard work, passion for learning, and commitment to academic excellence,” Crusoe says. “This scholarship will help me enter into my senior year ready to finish strong. I am excited for what is to come in my scholastic journey.”

The ETS Presidential Scholarship recognizes rising juniors and seniors at HBCUs who have established a record of outstanding academic performance in college and who exhibit an interest in leadership in their chosen field. It covers the full cost of tuition for one academic year.

Each year HBCU college presidents submit letters of recommendations for their school’s nominees. The Office of Honors and Scholar Development, a division within the Office of Undergraduate Studies at Howard University, administers the ETS Presidential Scholarship.
