Howard University School of Business Has Accreditation in Business and Accounting Education Extended for Five Years

Bloomberg BusinessWeek ranks Howard University School of Business Among the Nation’s Top Programs

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 31, 2019)AACSB International announced that Howard University School of Business has successfully extended its accreditation in business and accounting for an additional five years. AACSB is recognized for providing the highest standards in business education and AACSB accreditation is earned by just five percent of schools worldwide offering business degrees at the bachelor level or higher.

“We are very pleased that the School of Business has been granted an extension of its accreditation in business and accounting by AACSB,” says Barron Harvey, dean of Howard University School of Business. “This is yet another milestone for the school of business faculty and we are very proud of this accomplishment.”

Howard University School of Business first earned business accreditation by AACSB in 1976, making it the first business school in Washington, D.C. to attain business accreditation status by AACSB. The School of Business at Howard University is one of just 189 schools to hold the supplemental accreditation for programs in accounting.

According to a press release by ACSB International:

“AACSB congratulates each institution on their achievement,” said Stephanie M. Bryant, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB. “Every AACSB-accredited school has demonstrated a focus on excellence in all areas, including teaching, research, curricula development, and student learning. The intense peer-review process exemplifies their commitment to quality business education.”

Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal focus, engagement with an AACSB-assigned mentor, and peer-reviewed evaluation. During this multi-year path, schools focus on developing and implementing a plan to align with AACSB’s accreditation standards. These standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty, and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.
