Howard Men’s and Women’s Basketball Capture MEAC Regular Season Titles, Earn No. 1 Seeds in Conference Tournament
This historic milestone marks the first time since 1987 that both Bison basketball programs have secured MEAC regular season championships
Howard University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have both captured Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season championships, marking the first time since 1987 that both Bison basketball programs have achieved this feat in the same season.
The historic milestone was secured following victories on Thursday at Norfolk State to close out the regular season, solidifying Howard’s position at the top of the conference standings for the men’s and women’s teams. Both teams will enter the 2026 MEAC Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 seeds when the event tips off March 11–14 in Norfolk, Virginia.
The accomplishment reflects a season defined by consistency, preparation, and competitive excellence across both programs.
The Howard women’s basketball team delivered a particularly dominant campaign, finishing the regular season undefeated at Burr Gymnasium, earning a 23-7 overall record and back-to-back 20+ wins seasons. The men’s program finished the season with a 21-10 record, continuing the strong trajectory of Bison basketball and demonstrating the culture of accountability and performance built by the coaching staffs.
“This is truly an exciting time for Howard University Athletics,” said Kery Davis, Howard’s vice president of Athletics. “Momentum is building, expectations are high, and our programs continue to represent the university with pride and purpose.”
Several student athletes have emerged as strong contenders for major conference honors, which will be announced in the coming days. Players such as Zennia Thomas, Nile Miller, Cedric Taylor III, and Bryce Harris are among those positioned for recognition, which includes MEAC Player of the Year, MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, and All-MEAC selections.
The women’s team will face the 8th- seeded team South Carolina State on Wednesday, March 11 at 12 p.m. The men will take on either No. 4 seed Norfolk State or No. 5 seed South Carolina State on Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. Both games can be viewed on ESPN+.
