Howard University Day of Service 2021: Homecoming, ‘Remember the Times!’

Homecoming Day of Service 2021WASHINGTON – Howard University Homecoming Day of Service will be on Saturday, October 23 at 9 a.m. Student volunteers will check in at the Chapel tent on the Main Yard before venturing to their service sites. As a safety precaution, this year’s Homecoming Day of Service events will be closed to alumni, unless otherwise specified.

“Howard University and the chapel are home to some of the world’s most diverse students, faculty, staff and alumni, and we welcome their return. We begin Howard Homecoming each year with the Day of Service as a testament to our commitment to the University’s motto: truth and service,” says Rev. Bernard L. Richardson, Ph.D., dean of the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel at Howard University.

Howard University students will volunteer by supporting the needs of organizations across the Washington metropolitan area, focused on service-learning initiatives, including community beautification, health, education and environmental justice. Coordinated by the Office of the Dean of the Chapel and supported by the Division of Student Affairs, this service-learning experience allows Howard University students to discover themselves and learn about the power of ethical leadership and civic responsibility.

To ensure the safety of Howard’s campus community, individuals will be required to download the Bison SAFE app and complete the daily COVID-19 self-assessment prior to entering any Homecoming events held in person. Bison SAFE is the official safety app of Howard University. The app pushes important safety alerts directly to your device and provides instant access to campus safety resources. Click here to download the Bison SAFE app and view instructions for completing the daily self-assessment. Other safety measures including masks and social distancing are also required.
