Howard University Alumni Panel Joins Donna Brazile for Howard University King Lecture Series

“From the Hilltop to the White House: Lifting as We Climb” King Chair LectureWASHINGTON – The 2021-2022 Gwendolyn S. and Colbert I. King Endowed Chair in Public Policy Lecture Series, chaired by political strategist and author Donna Brazile, will return Monday, September 20 at 5 p.m. EDT online via Zoom. This year’s series is themed “Make the Future Your Own: Building Forward Together.” 

The first virtual event entitled “From the Hilltop to the White House: Lifting as We Climb” will host approximately 20 students for the discussion filmed live in WHUT studios. Brazile will be joined by a panel of Howard University alumni, including Emma Eatman (B.A. ’19), press secretary for the U.S. Department of Labor; Silas Woods (B.A. ’17), vetting researcher for the Office of the Vice President; and Meaghan Lynch, Esq. (J.D. ’14), press secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Eatman previously served as deputy press secretary for the House Education and Labor Committee under Chairman Bobby Scott. During her time at Howard, she was an active participant in Howard University Student Association. She graduated Howard with a Bachelor of Arts in 2019 with a public relations major and political science minor. 

Outside of the classroom, Woods enhanced his knowledge in various countries, including Oaxaca, Mexico; Havana, Cuba; and multiple areas in China. As a political science major at Howard, Woods partook in Howard University Senate, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Beta Chapter) and Drew Hall Step Team.

A North Carolina native, Lynch is a graduate of the esteemed Howard University School of Law and is now a member of the Maryland State Bar. Lynch previously served as press secretary for Vice President Harris in 2019, communications director and counsel for Rep. G. K. Butterfield, and chief deputy whip for the House Democratic Caucus and chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. Lynch began her career as an intern in the office of Rep. Butterfield. Prior to taking her place in public service, Lynch worked as senior associate at a strategic communications firm in Washington, D.C.
