Howard University Alternative Spring Break Program Suspended for 2020

Alternative Spring Break 2

Dear Howard University Community,

During this time of uncertainty and great challenge, the priority of the Office of the Dean of the Chapel is the wellbeing of our students, the campus community and the communities we serve. After careful consideration of the risks associated with the Coronavirus in the Washington-metropolitan area and some Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) service sites, the decision was made to suspend all travel and programming for Howard University Alternative Spring Break 2020.

We would like to thank President Frederick for his support and recognize and honor the extensive commitment and tireless work of our steering committee, team leaders, participants and especially our executive leadership team including:

  • Executive Student Director, Sydney Montgomery;
  • Student Co-Director of Operations, Camryn Lam;
  • Student Co-Director of Operations, Dijon Stokes;
  • Student Director of Communications, Whitney Brown;
  • Andreya Davis, Assistant Dean for Faith-based and Community Initiatives; and
  • Joseph Dillard, Special Assistant for Service-Learning Initiatives

These leaders have demonstrated the understanding of the great legacy of service and historical impact of HUASB programming. They have shown exemplary leadership over the past year of planning HUASB 2020 and personify the University motto: Excellence in Truth and Service. Our selfless student leaders remain committed to serving the affected communities. Their service continues…

The University published a centralized resource for information on the Coronavirus found here.

We thank the entire University community for your continued commitment to the HUASB student and faculty community, as well as the Office of the Dean of the Chapel.

Excellence in Truth and Service,

Bernard L. Richardson, Ph.D.
Dean of the Chapel
