WASHINGTON – Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick will deliver the 2020 State of the University Address virtually on Friday, October 16, at 10 a.m. EDT via livestream on WHUT or WHUR. Dr. Frederick’s remarks will recap a most unusual year for Howard University that has spanned the transition to online education in response to the coronavirus pandemic as well as a significant jump for the institution to No. 80 on the latest U.S. News & World Report 2021 rankings list of the best national universities.
The State of the University Address is a critical part of Howard’s 2020 Homecoming, which was given the theme of “Advocacy!” President Frederick will update the Howard community on the status of the University’s many programs, partnerships and initiatives that are designed to not only enhance the educational experiences of Howard students but also to establish pipelines of Black talent to some of our country’s leading employers and major industries.
“Right now, Howard finds itself in a position of influence in a moment of great upheaval for our country,” said Dr. Frederick. “The pandemic and protest movement have culminated to create an inflection point for our society. It is vital that the greater Howard community understand the state and strength of our University. Even though Homecoming this year became a virtual event, it is still an ideal opportunity to create a marketplace of ideas and instill Howard’s current and future leaders with the knowledge and passion to make a difference.”
President Frederick’s State of the University Address will encapsulate the important legacy Howard has had in the history of racial justice protests and the significant role the University continues to play in advancing forward-thinking ideas. The presentation will also address the current financial state of Howard in light of the institution’s ongoing commitments to supporting faculty and staff despite the challenging financial circumstances created by the pandemic. In addition to focusing on the current state of the University, he will also forecast Howard’s future and discuss upcoming initiatives.
All students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to watch the State of the University Address via livestream on WHUT or WHUR.
