Howard Law Announces Sesquicentennial Awardees

WASHINGTON (April 9, 2019)— Howard University School of Law announced the recipients for several awards in celebration of the law school’s 150th anniversary. The awards will be presented to Howard Law alumni who have made notable contributions in their respective fields during the sold-out Sesquicentennial Reception and Gala on Saturday, April 13 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington.

“These awardees represent the excellence of the Howard Law graduate,” said Danielle Holley-Walker, dean of Howard University School of Law. “We celebrate their visionary leadership and their achievements.” 

The honorees will receive awards in seven categories:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award

    Lezli Baskerville and Sanford Cloud, Jr.

     
  • Trailblazer Award

    Anna Blackburne Rigsby and Charles King

     
  • Rising Star Award

    Shirlethia Franklin, Charles Bingham and Chris Stewart

     
  • Charles Hamilton Houston Award

    Elijah Porter and Ky'Eisha Penn

     
  • Distinguished Alumni

    Alice Gresham Bullock and Hon. Emmett Sullivan 

     
  • Distinguished Faculty Award

    Patricia Worthy and Spencer Boyer 

     
  • Distinguished Staff

    Joann Fax and Reginald McGahee

Nominees for the awards were selected by a Howard Law committee that included alumni representatives, faculty and staff through an open nomination process. The black-tie event is Howard Law’s premier fundraising event. Proceeds will benefit the law school, including law school scholarships and the academic program.
