WASHINGTON — The DC Small Business Development Center (DCSBDSC) at Howard University is pleased to announce the addition of a new full-time service center in its network, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC) Foundation. The DCSBDC has been a long-time member of the chamber and strategic partner with its foundation.  

According to the DCSBDC Executive Director Carl Brown, “the addition of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation to our network will expand the capacity and capability of the small business technical services we provide to District of Columbia pre-venture and existing small businesses.”  In addition to the GWHCC Foundation and the Lead Center at Howard University, the DCSBDC Network also has a full-time service center at the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation.

The GWHCC Foundation is taking new DCSBDC clients immediately.  Currently and until further notice, all DCSBDC small business counseling services at all centers and most DCSBDC network events are conducted virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the DCSBDC Network: The DCSBDC Network is an accredited program through the collaborative initiative of Howard University, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and District of Columbia small business community stakeholders, and has been in existence for over 40 years.  The DCSBDC Network centers and associated business counselors provide no cost management and technical assistance, research, and affordable training in all phases of business development to small business owners in the district or other owners seeking a presence in the district. In 2021, the DCSBDC Network counseled 753 small business clients, conducted 129 webinars, and assisted small businesses in acquiring over $8.1 million in capital. The DCSBDC is one of 63 SBDC networks and close to 1,000 centers and over 6,000 business counselors supporting small businesses in the United States and U.S. territories.

About the GWHCC Foundation: The GWHCC Foundation is the nonprofit arm of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that provides technical assistance to low- and medium-income businesses.  For more than 39 years, the GWHCCF has been helping Hispanics and other minorities open successful businesses and providing technical assistance to existing business owners through its programs with the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), DC Health Link, the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs (MOLA), Small Business Administration (SBA), City First Bank, and Capital One.
