Dear Howard University Students,
Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students. We understand it can be very challenging navigating an academic setting, especially when students face stressful situations. We will continue to train faculty and staff and usher internal and external resources to students so that they can recognize a friend who may be in crisis, and help. The University is committed to ensuring students excel academically as whole and healthy scholars.
One of the ways the University demonstrates this commitment is by providing dedicated resources to assist students that may be experiencing mental health issues or those impacted by sexual harassment, sexual assault or other forms of interpersonal violence. The University Counseling Center has a team of 13 licensed counselors available to help students manage any concerns or issues they may have. Last year, the University Counseling Center saw and treated 1,252 students.

- University Counseling Center offers a wide range of counseling and psychological services to assist students. The services provided are geared toward increasing self-understanding, autonomy, and personal development. They include counseling, crisis intervention, clinical training, testing, and research. - Student Health Center aims to add great value and comfort to the University experience for students by offering a safety net of basic healthcare. The Center provides students with access to care for acute sickness, injuries, contraception management, chronic disease management, referrals to specialists, health promotion, and disease prevention education. - Department of Public Safety (DPS) is another resource dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all members of the Howard community. DPS responds to incidents of interpersonal violence and facilitates investigations regarding potential criminal activity. - Title IX Office responds to all reports regarding sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender-based discrimination, and harassment, dating & domestic violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, retaliation, and complicity. This includes providing interim measures, such as housing and academic accommodations and No Contact Orders to individuals who have experienced conduct prohibited by the University’s Title IX Policy. The Title IX Office also trains the University community on Title IX Compliance, protections and rights and conducts investigations and facilitates alternative forms of resolution. - Interpersonal Violence Prevention Program (IVPP) assists survivors of sexual assault and other forms of interpersonal violence with understanding issues related to trauma, obtaining Court ordered Temporary Restraining orders; seeking a SANE Exam/Rape Kit from Washington Hospital Center; and understanding how to seek support services on and off-campus.
