Biography

Jon-Edward Stokes is a physics student who was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but calls Chicago, Illinois, home. He has multiple interests which he plans on pursuing throughout his education, including renewable energy development and quantum physics. Stokes’s enrollment in Howard University is due in large part to his desire to be surrounded by talented scholars of African descent from around the world, having the support of a tight-knit Physics department, and a desire to learn more about the African diaspora. He is pursuing physics to help develop safer and more sustainable and equitable ways of living and producing resources, especially within the field of energy. He wishes to gain the knowledge, experience, and expertise to pursue avenues that very few Black students and scholars get the chance to and pave the way for them through internship/research opportunities and education.
