Biography
Mr. Mark A. L. Mason has served as a member of the Howard University Board of Trustees since 2012 and as Vice Chair of the Board since July 1, 2017.
Mr. Mason is Executive Vice Chair and Senior Executive Advisor at Citi. Drawing on more than two decades of leadership, financial expertise, and operational experience at Citi, he supports the company’s long-term strategic priorities. He also serves on Citi’s Executive Management Team.
Previously, Mr. Mason served as Chief Financial Officer of Citi from 2019 to 2026, where he was responsible for the company’s financial management and played a pivotal role in strengthening Citi’s financial performance and advancing the firm’s transformation.
He joined Citi in 2001 and has held several senior operational, strategic, and financial leadership roles across the company. Before becoming CFO, he served as CFO of Citi’s Institutional Clients Group and led the firm’s Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review submission process. His previous roles also include CEO of Citi Private Bank, CEO of Citi Holdings, and CFO and Head of Strategy and M&A for Citi’s Global Wealth Management Division.
Before joining Citi, Mr. Mason was Director of Strategy and Business Development at Lucent Technologies. He also worked as a strategy consultant at Marakon Associates, advising several Fortune 100 companies on strategies to maximize shareholder value, and earlier held investment banking roles at Goldman Sachs.
Mr. Mason earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, with honors, from Howard University and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He also serves on the board of directors of Microsoft and previously served as a director of Primerica, Inc.
