As families across the DMV continue to feel the ripple effects of the ongoing federal government shutdown and the pause in SNAP benefits, 96.3 WHUR is stepping up once again to help. On Thursday, November 13, WHUR will host its 47th Annual “Food2Feed” radiothon from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its studios, 529 Bryant Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
Donations of nonperishable food and funds will support the Capital Area Food Bank and Shabach Ministries, Inc. – two non-profits on the frontline daily addressing food insecurity impacting about 1.5 million people across the Washington region. Food2Feed seeks to help restock the shelves of the two food banks and provide much needed dollars, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday season.
“Our community always rises to the occasion,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater. “Even in tough times, the spirit of giving runs deep in the DMV. Food2Feed is our way of reminding families that they’re not alone – we see them, we stand with them, and we’re here to help.”
Howard University students will fan out across Georgia Avenue and Bryant Street collecting monetary donations along with canned goods from motorists and pedestrians. Donations can also be made online at www.whur.com.
It is estimated that $1 can provide two meals. Join WHUR, the Capital Area Food Bank, and Shabach Ministries in making this holiday season brighter for families in need. Together, we can feed hope – one meal at a time.
