School of Social Work Hosts June 10 Seminar to Explore Leadership That Challenges the Status Quo

WASHINGTON- Social workers are change agents. To make critical changes in society, social workers must engage in Disruptive Leadership, which is defined as someone in a leadership position who is always looking for better solutions, and ways to improve processes and the business overall. Disruptive leaders are those who aren’t afraid to shake things up to get the necessary results.

Howard University’s School of Social Work will host a 4-hour seminar Monday, June 10 from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. that focuses on the importance of challenging the status quo, and in the words of Congressman John Lewis “Making Good Trouble.” The seminar will be held at the School of Social Work, located at 601 Howard Place NW.

Presenters will provide interactive discussions on examples of “disruptive leadership.” Participants will learn about faith-based initiatives, grandparents raising grandchildren, workforce re-entry, and grant writing.

  • Annie Brown, professor emerita, Howard University School of Social Work
