Ron Prince Named Head Football Coach at Howard University

Ron Prince

WASHINGTON (December 10, 2018) – Howard University Director of Athletics Kery Davis has announced the hiring of Ron Prince as the football program’s new head coach.

“We welcome Ron Prince to the Howard University family,” Davis said. “His background includes successful tenures at the highest collegiate and professional levels. His football acumen, demonstrated values and forward-thinking vision fits well into the program here at Howard. He reflects the mission of our Athletic Department to promote excellence and service on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.”

Prince brings a wealth of experience to Howard. Most recently, he was the offensive analyst for the University of Michigan Wolverines. The Big Ten team ended the regular season with a 10-2 record. The Wolverines were No. 1 in the conference in third-down conversions, time of possession and offensive turnovers.

“We are excited to have Coach Ron Prince join the Bison Family and I look forward to having him work with our student-athletes and take the football program to higher heights,” said President Wayne A. I. Frederick. “Coach Prince’s experience in the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences and in the NFL are impressive and in line with our vision for what Howard football can be. However, I am most impressed by his accolades molding students into leaders on and off the field. He is concerned with the entire student experience, which is exactly what our students deserve and need.”

Prior to his season at Michigan, Prince was the assistant head coach, tight ends coach and offensive line coach with the Detroit Lions. Additionally, he has served as head coach at Kansas State, offensive coordinator at Rutgers University and offensive line coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts.
