Redemption Song, a short film about Howard University’s 1971 championship winning soccer team will air tonight on ESPN. The team made history when it became the first team from a historically black college to win an NCAA national championship. Shortly after the achievement, their title was taken away and heavy sanctions banning post-season competition were imposed due to player eligibility violations. The extreme consequences were seen as racial politics against Howard University’s athletic success.
