Redemption Song, a short film about Howard University’s 1971 championship winning soccer team will air tonight on ESPN. The team made history when it became the first team from a historically black college to win an NCAA national championship. Shortly after the achievement, their title was taken away and heavy sanctions banning post-season competition were imposed due to player eligibility violations. The extreme consequences were seen as racial politics against Howard University’s athletic success. Determined to win back their title, they went on another successful championship run in 1974. Watch the film directed by Kenan Holley as part of Spike Lee’s Lil Joints series during the 6 p.m. ET hour of SportsCenter for the full story. #RedemptionSongMovie #HowardRedemption #BisonRedemption
