WASHINGTON –Teams and offices across campus came together to help students make the transition to online learning in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic. Following a campus-wide survey that revealed approximately 300 students were in need of devices for online instruction, the Office of Corporate Relations secured 300 tablets through donations. The Division of Student Affairs then joined in on the effort.
They developed a process for students to submit requests and verify addresses, and to confirm needs and process the requests. The work didn’t stop there; the Office of Procurement and Contracting, and Auxiliary Enterprises’ Mail Services ordered Bluetooth keyboards for the tablets that were purchased out of funds raised by our Development and Alumni Relations Department.
Once the keyboards and donated tablets arrived on campus, the Office of Procurement and Contracting, and Auxiliary Enterprises’ Mail Services began shipping them to students. To date, 240 packages have been shipped and students have begun confirming receipt of their devices. Because of this tremendous teamwork, students that were in need can now fully participate in online instruction. Thank you to the Howard University community whose hard works and generous support made this effort possible!
