Howard University's Moorland-Spingarn Research Center Presents: "Forever, Always: The Black Love Exhibit"

Black love enters the chat at MSRC

The Moorland-Spingarn Research Center collects, preserves, and makes a wide range of resources available for research chronicling the Black experience throughout the African Diaspora.

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Moorland-Spingarn Research Center (MSRC) at Howard University announces the opening of its latest exhibition, "Forever, Always: The Black Love Exhibit," that will launch on Wednesday, February 19, followed by a reception in the Breezeway Gallery between Founders Library and the Wayne A. I. Frederick Undergraduate Library (UGL).

This exhibit opens Feb 19th

This innovative multi-thematic museum display celebrates the diverse expressions and experiences of Black love through a carefully curated collection of archival materials from MSRC's prestigious collections.

"I'm inspired by the diverse expressions of love that the curators present in this exhibit," says Dr. Benjamin Talton, MSRC Director.  "We most often envision love as expressed between couples, within families, and among friends.  But what we see on display here is that there are spaces of love that we may take for granted.  I'm inspired by the curators’ work and look I forward to seeing students and the broader community engage with it."

The exhibit features original artwork by Howard University students, a curated Black Love playlist, and an engaging collection of oral histories documenting love stories from the community. Visitors are invited to participate in an interactive component, making the exhibition a truly immersive experience.

"We have an extremely capable and very organized team of archivists who are serving as co-curators of this exhibition," adds Sonja Woods, University Archivist and exhibit committee advisor. "They have proven to be consummate collaborators and demonstrate a high-level of both archival and artistic talent, innovation, and creativity.  I am eternally grateful to the Divine for these individuals and their work in presenting 'Forever Always' to the wider Howard community."
