Howard University’s Medical Commitment to Haiti Continues to Grow

WASHINGTON (June 7, 2016) - Howard University and Howard University Hospital, for the sixth consecutive year, will join the non-profits NOAH-NY and the Haitian American Alliance to provide quality healthcare to under-served Haitians, from June 9-19.

Each year the Howard University College of Medicine-led project sends dozens of physicians, instructors, medical residents and students to the country as a humanitarian response to the devastating earthquake in 2010. The scope of the project has grown over the years with the inclusion of participants from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, the College of Dentistry, and the College of Pharmacy.

Howard University has also strengthened its ties to Haiti by providing support for the Caracol Health Center, the new health clinic in northeastern Haiti. The facility offers maternity care, lab testing, pharmaceuticals and vaccinations and serves as an important source of care in a region where medical services are sparse.

"The project is a great opportunity that forever impacts the lives of our young health professionals and the people of Haiti," said Dr. Shelly McDonald-Pinkett, chief medical officer of Howard University Hospital. "But we can’t do it without your support. There is no donation too small and we are very grateful for your support in advance."
