The Howard University Office of Executive Education, one of the leading HBCU Executive MBA (EMBA) and executive leadership programs, today announced the relaunch of the Howard University and Sherpa Executive Coaching Certification Program with The Sherpa Library, the premier, research-backed executive coaching and leadership development firm. The program introduces participants to the fundamentals of executive coaching, offers real-world experience with a practicum client, and prepares leaders at every level to help achieve lasting success.
The Executive Coaching Certification Program is designed as a hybrid (in-person and online) course for aspiring coaches, organizational leaders, HR professionals, and consultants. This relaunch provides individuals and organizations with the opportunity to flexibly learn without compromising depth at a top historically Black university in the nation’s capital.

By combining in-person instruction, virtual learning, and hands-on coaching experience, the program prepares professionals to coach leaders at every level. Participants earn the Certified Sherpa Coach (CSC) designation and a Certificate of Program Completion from Howard University and The Sherpa Library. The program consists of 60 hours of instruction from world-renowned faculty and a 90-day practicum delivered on campus at the Howard University School of Business, June 22-26, 2026, and virtually August 3-6, 2026.

The course includes:
- Core Coaching Foundations: Master the Sherpa six-phase executive coaching process, learn to distinguish executive coaching from consulting, mentoring, and therapy, and cultivate the presence, mindset, and discipline that define an effective coach.
- Driving Business Impact: Leverage Impact on Business to tie coaching to measurable outcomes, guide leaders through high-stakes decisions that shape performance and teams, and communicate coaching ROI clearly to stakeholders.
- Real-World Coaching Application: Manage structured engagements from program kickoff to close, gain hands-on experience working with real clients during the practicum, and apply decision-making tools to drive meaningful results.
- Professional Growth and Practice Development: Build and manage a thriving coaching practice and prepare for engagements with C-suite leaders.

Participants are welcome to attend optional Howard University-led electives designed to expand coaching capability and professional impact. The program also supports participants pursuing International Coach Federation (ICF) credentials. Participants may earn up to 60 Continuing Coach Education (CCE) hours, which can be applied toward the ICF ACC Portfolio Path or used for ICF recertification, subject to ICF guidelines.
