Howard University is celebrating the Inauguration of Ben Vinson III, Ph.D. as 18th president of Howard University with a week of festivities, both in mind and body, leading up to a momentous and historical event.
President Vinson’s inauguration mark the inception of a new era at Howard, dedicated to the official installation and acknowledgment of its new leadership and his vision for Howard.
The week of festivities kicked off with a Call to Chapel on Sunday, October 29, featuring author, minister, professor, and political commentator, Michael Eric Dyson, Ph.D.
On Monday, October 30, President Vinson joined students, faculty, and staff on the Yard for an afternoon of fitness. Through a partnership with FITDC, Howard held a Bring Your Own Mat (BYOM) Hip Hop Yoga session led by FITDC ambassador Radiance Basden, followed by FITDC ambassador Bakari Taylor’s Trap HIIT/Boxing session.
Other events lined up for the week include:
- Academic Symposium Day I and Day II - We Center Blackness: Howard, Diversity, and Diaspora featuring Howard faculty as moderators and panelists.
- A concert featuring Howard University artistic talents; and
- The Inauguration Convocation Watch Party. On Saturday, November 4, the Howard University community is invited to celebrate President Vinson with a light brunch while watching the ceremony at the Armour J. Blackburn University Center Room: Ballroom.
