WASHINGTON – The Office of Development and Alumni Relations at Howard University will host Forward Thinking: A Bison Roundtable on Education During COVID-19 at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 26. Alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the University are invited to participate in the virtual event by registering here.

“During these unprecedented and fast changing times, we are committed to acting as a resource for our far-reaching network of alumni and those who are a part of the Howard University community,” said Sharon Strange Lewis, director of Alumni Relations. “The experts on this panel will provide insights and perspectives on some of the most pressing questions around the future of grade school education. I hope the members of our community will join us for this unique and important opportunity and follow our ongoing effort to support the Howard community.”

The panel will feature several education experts who will discuss the concerns many parents have as they consider the future of their children’s education amid national school closures and the implementation of distance learning. The panel will address the anxiety many parents are feeling about their children having missed significant portions of their learning experience and anticipation of what changes they may experience in the fall. Panelists will explore some ways families can support their children, both academically and socially.

Panelists will include:

  • Dawn Williams, Ph.D., Dean, Howard University School of Education
  • Kathryn Procope, Principal, Howard University Middle School of Math and Science
  • Rhonda Moore, Director, Howard University’s Early Learning Program
  • Abimbola George, Assistant Dean, Howard University Middle School of Math and Science

The panel is the second event to take place as part of the “Forward Thinking: A Bison Roundtable” discussion series, a bi-weekly discussion about current issues.

“We are excited about the creation of Forward Thinking: A Bison Roundtable, a bi-weekly discussion on issues impacting the African American community,” said Strange Lewis. “It’s a space where we bring Howard’s best and brightest thought leaders together for provocative conversations to provide knowledgeable insight on relevant topics.”
