WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 10, 2019) – Howard University Hospital (HUH) and its team of healthcare experts have signed on to participate at the 2019 NBC4 Health & Fitness EXPO this Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Downtown, Washington, D.C. HUH will be celebrating its 26th year at the EXPO; it is one of two healthcare organizations that have taken part in the event each year since its inception.
The NBC4 Health & Fitness EXPO brings together more than 85,000 attendees and 200 health organizations over a two-day span (Jan. 12 and Jan. 13). The EXPO provides a unique opportunity for D.C. area residents to engage healthcare professionals for free screenings and medical advice.
“We are excited to be back for our 26th year at the NBC4 Health and Wellness EXPO. Howard has continued to work in tandem with local leaders and community partners to put strategies in place to improve the health outcomes of D.C. residents,” says HUH Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shelly McDonald-Pinkett. “In previous years, we have had well over a 1,000 visitors come to our booth over the two-day period. So we are looking forward to connecting with attendees to help improve their health outlook for 2019 and beyond.”
Beginning on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5p.m.; and on Sunday, Jan. 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., HUH’s team of expert physicians and trained specialists will be at booth number 1744, conducting free health screenings, answering health and wellness questions (“Ask a Doctor”), and scheduling real-time appointments. EXPO attendees who want to get a prostate examination are invited to come to the Howard University Cancer Center Van sponsored by Bayer. And HUH’s popular Health and Wellness Information Stations are back again this year to offer attendees one-on-one access to a wide array of specialty services and medical knowledge.
“Getting a routine health screening is such an important part of managing your health. Screenings are effective in helping to discover possible health risks before they become serious issues,” says Dr. McDonald-Pinkett. “Detecting a potential health problem at an earlier stage often means the availability of more treatment options, which may result in a better outcome for the patient.”
