Carter Joins Howard University Staff as AVP-Student Affairs

WASHINGTON (June 17, 2016)—Parris Carter, has been selected as assistant vice president of Student Affairs at Howard University.

Carter has been executive director of student affairs at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, overseeing the Student Affairs Division. Before that, he was dean of students at Wilberforce University in Ohio for nearly ten years.

“Mr. Carter’s focus on retention and student engagement in his earlier roles made him an attractive candidate to join our team here at Howard,” said President Wayne A.I. Frederick. “We look forward to his contribution as the University continues its strong emphasis on graduation in four years and making every academic interaction count.”

He will report to Kenneth Holmes, vice president of student affairs, who said Carter’s 16 years in the field included involvement in a broad range of student support activities. “From mentoring individuals to managing crisis intervention situations to leading a minority male health initiative, Parris Carter’s experiences have prepared him well for the varied demands of student life at the University,” he said.

Mr. Carter earned his a Masters of Education and Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wright State University.  He will join the University on June 20, 2016.
