When Homecoming begins at Howard University, many people think of football, but Bison Madness is one of the most highly anticipated events.

This year, Burr Gymnasium was packed with students who waited to get a seat for a show that included a sneak peek peak at the women’s and men’s basketball teams, as well as performances from the Showtime Marching Band, the Ooh La La! Dancers and the Bisonettes Dance Team. Special guest and actor J. Alphonse Nicholson, who portrays Lil’ Murda in the STARZ hit show P Valley, served as the special guest and MC with DJ Jae Murphy.

Bison Madness, produced in conjunction with Jordan Brand, was a pep rally and basketball scrimmage filled with Howard University swag! Freshman guard Jordan Atkins was blown away by the energy on display, from fellow student athletes to the hundreds of student spectators.

“I had a great first experience of Bison Madness,” said Jordan, a finance major from South Orange, N.J. hopes to help the men’s team repeat as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champions this season. “I was truly able to feel the energy and support from everyone in Burr.”

Following the scrimmage and entertainment, students spilled out onto a Jordan Brand activation outside of Burr complete with card games, board games and food trucks under the lights. It was a truly festive way to kick off a week of fun events for students, employees, alumni and the larger University community.

“This event was a lot of fun and it really helps set the tone for Homecoming,” said Courtney Wilborn, a sophomore finance major from Philadelphia. “I’m really looking forward to all the events this week and having an enjoyable time with my Bison family.”
