Howard University’s Ava J. Sullivan to Receive the 2022 LaRue V. Barkwell Capstone Distinguished Service Award

WASHINGTON – Howard University announces the recipient of the 2022 LaRue V. Barkwell Capstone Distinguished Service Award is Ava J. Sullivan, COVID-19 response coordinator and clinical practice supervisor for Howard University Hospital. The award will be presented during the 2022 Charter Day Celebration: A Virtual Experience on Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m. Join the celebration via livestream here.  

“It is my pleasure to name Ms. Ava Sullivan the 2022 Capstone Distinguished Service Award recipient,” said President Wayne A.I. Frederick. “Her dedication to the Howard University community, especially throughout the pandemic, has been exemplary and we are happy to extend this award in honor of her service.” 

Sullivan has committed countless hours of her professional and personal time to ensure that members of the Howard University community remain safe and have equal access to COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. For more than a decade, Sullivan has served the Howard University Faculty Practice Plan in various roles. Her leadership and work ethic on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic have been instrumental. Sullivan has played an integral role raising awareness for testing across Howard University’s campus and has helped to implement successful strategies for the Howard University COVID-19 Task Force. 
 
Sullivan has a wealth of expertise with more than 17 years of medical administrative office experience. A native Washingtonian and champion of healthcare, Sullivan has dedicated her career and personal time to helping enhance clinical practice throughout Washington, D.C. Sullivan is a proud graduate of Cardozo Senior High School here in the District.
